Published in 2015, this article posits that Boko Haram is a symptom of Nigeria's "resource curse." After the discovery of oil, endemic corruption and predatory foreign influences have helped create a hollowed-out state that can neither protect its citizens nor develop its economy. It is an environment where Boko Haram has thrived.

This article from 2015 examines the relationship between climate change and the increasing sociological destabilization of Egypt and the MENA states.  The rising tides of the Mediterranean Sea threaten not only the arable land in the north of the country, but also the freshwater lakes that provide drinking water and seafood to the population.

The Pacific Garbage Gyre, the Chinese city of Guiyu, and the erosion of the Arctic all reflect our growing indifference to the collective consequences of our actions. The debt will come due  in the very near future.

This 2015 article looks at the causes and unfortunate effects of climate change in melting the Arctic’s ice. The dispersal of the ice's reflective properties, or "albedo," hastens the warming of the Earth and creates a feedback loop in which the ice melts faster.  Compounding this problem is the rush of nations and multinational corporations to drill this untapped region for petroleum and natural gas.  The ones who stand to suffer the most from climate change are the poorest countries, who benefit the least from its causes.
